A sapphire engagement ring

Alex shares my love for gemstones and jewellery - maybe it’s because he is half Russian, who knows. He has a fiancée with ravishing blue eyes and his engagement ring was designed around a gorgeous, oval, blue sapphire.

Alex didn’t want a ring that was already made, he wanted to have some influence on the design. Together, we thought very well about the shape. A ring with a coloured stone surrounded by diamonds, which is a classic, has to be done exactly right. It shouldn’t bring to mind a bishop’s ring. It should not be old fashioned. And not too small! Yet affordable.

We looked for the most beautiful blue sapphire within the budget. After judging at least ten of them, we found the one with the shape and colour that you can’t take your eyes off of. I sourced the right size and colour diamonds for this sapphire, in a top quality that only enhances the appeal of the sapphire.

After looking at many rings alike on the internet, Alex knew exactly how many prongs he wanted, which shape they should have and where they should be holding the stones. The result was a design for a traditional ring with unique touches. And the goldsmith really did a stellar job.

On the day that Alex was going to ask his future father-in-law for his daughter’s hand I gave Alex the ring and just like the goldsmith, I was a bit sad to part with it. Whát a beauty this ring turned out to be!
